Federica Pellegrini is the Olympic athlete who attended in 1984 but didn’t compete in swimming since she didn’t make the cut.
Her coach informed her she needed to compete in the 200- and 400-meter butterfly events as well as the 100-meter breaststroke if she wanted to make the Olympics.

Federica has put herself in a sticky situation. She was requested to participate in a few of events that were above her abilities, but she didn’t want to let the audience down, so she went ahead and did them anyway.
The issue was that she had no idea what the applause was celebrating. Fantastic event, but she couldn’t figure out why everyone was cheering. She was at a loss for action.
Federica Pellegrini swam competitively for the Italian Olympic swim team, the Federazione Italiana Pellegrin.
Federica Pellegrini was also on the squad that had just lost to Brazil in the Olympics, and she was torn between feeling proud of her team and feeling disappointed by their performance.
Having having Won the Olympic Gold Medal, Federica must be Quite Busy with her Training.
Even though Federica didn’t realise it, she was actually cheering for Brazil. I’d like to think that the Brazilian crowd wouldn’t have been quite so taken aback by the Italian’s play if they had known how much the Brazilians appreciated it.
