A. Delgado, an American judoka, has competed in five IJF Grand Slam competitions since she won bronze at the Dusseldorf Grand Slam in February 2020.

She placed eighth twice, her highest performance in those competitions. This past weekend, the two-time Olympian returned to the top step of a grand slam podium after taking home bronze at the Grand Slam Hungary 2022 in Budapest.

In the match for the bronze medal, A. Delgado, who competes in the 52 kg. division, bested her fellow American, Katelyn Jarrell.

A. Delgado, 31, had a first-round bye and then won Pool D by beating Rebeka Keller of Hungary and Gefen Primo of Israel.

The native of Rhode Island, Jarrell, lost in the third round but went on to win two matches in the repechage and set up a bronze medal match with A. Delgado. A. Delgado won the match by submission after taking Jarrell down to the mat in just 14 seconds.

Jarrell’s career high in a grand slam tournament was a fifth-place result.

A. Delgado shared an Instagram video of each of her victories in Budapest, as well as a group shot with the other medalists in the 52 kilogramme weight class.

Even though A. Delgado hasn’t medaled in a grand slam competition in almost two years, she has earned two silver medals in that period, both at the Panamerican Senior Championships. A. Delgado was defeated in the finals by the Brazilian Larissa Pimenta in both 2021 and 2022.
