S. Cheah did not give up on Badminton even after suffering a loss in the first game on July 29 to Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon, despite enduring four surgeries to cure an Achilles tendon injury.

All of Malaysia would be rooting for S. Cheah in any future events she would participate in.

Fifth seed Ratchanok Intanon was on the verge of elimination from Tokyo 2020 until she steadied herself and defeated S. Cheah of Malaysia in their last Group N match.

The Thai had a hard time stopping S. Cheah’s attacking play for the majority of the first two games, and at 17-17, the Malaysian was on the cusp of the biggest upset of the tournament so far.

S. Cheah had been ahead until Intanon pulled off a miraculous comeback in game two. Having successfully completed a challenging test, Intanon felt a sense of relief. When I compete in major tournaments, I have to push myself a little bit. I’m trying to keep my cool and play to my potential despite the mounting pressure I’m under.

During the second game, I got the impression, “Don’t think too much,” and that stuck with me. To put it another way, if S. Cheah ends up playing better than me on the day in question, I’ll have to accept that as a fair result, given that she came in well-prepared and was in charge of several shots, while I didn’t always have things go my way. I’m glad I won, but I wasn’t proud of my performance.

My body is ageing. Women’s singles is challenging because it moves quickly and is not always played in a rallying style, much like men’s singles. There isn’t the same amount of stress as the last two Olympics, which is nice.

Intanon’s Defeated Foe Had Nothing But Appreciation For Her.

A good match was put on by both of us today, and I’m pleased with my accomplishment of reaching the Olympic stage. My journey here was rather lengthy. I’d want to thank Ratchanok for her excellent pressure management and game-changing play.

As much as I tried, I just couldn’t pull out the victory for my parents, my family, my friends, and my fans. To be here at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics is a huge accomplishment, and it has left me feeling really overwhelmed.
