N Basilashvili began his tennis career with his father Nodar at the Leila Mekshi Tennis Academy in Tbilisi, Georgia, when he was just five years old.

N Basilashvili spent the majority of his adolescence honing his skills in the United States, where he often slept in the car while accompanying his father to tournaments.

His preferred playing conditions include a hard court, a forehand stroke, and the Wimbledon Championships.

He believes wearing a headband will protect him in the court, so he always wears one. In a previous life, he was a pilot, but now he plays tennis. Watches, aeroplanes, movies, and preparing gourmet meals are some of his favourite pastimes.

According to the Georgian Tennis Federation, N Basilashvili is the best player in the country. He competed in the Olympics twice and the ATP Cup twice (2020 and 2022). (Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020). Two ATP 500 tournaments and three ATP 250 tournaments were among N Basilashvili ‘s five ATP Tour titles.

On day three of the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Georgian competitors had already won two medals, and tennis player N Basilashvili had advanced to the round of 16.

Lasha Shavdatuashvili added to the country’s tally of two medals in the competition with his silver medal performance in the men’s 73 kg judo final against local favourite Shohei Ono on Monday.

That made Shavdatuashvili the first athlete from the newly independent Georgia to win three medals in the Olympics. The Olympic medalist won gold in London in 2012 and bronze in Rio in 2016.

N Basilashvili, meantime, advanced to the Round of 16 after beating Lorenzo Sonego of Italy in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-4) at Ariake Tennis Park on Monday. The match lasted two hours and 42 minutes.

Sakhil Alakhverdov lost to Jianguan Hu of China in the 48-52 kilogramme weight class, and Giorgi Kharabadze lost to Fanat Kakhramonov of China in the 69-75 kilogramme weight class, in boxing bouts held earlier in the day.

Eter Liparteliani was ecstatic after beating Angola’s Diassonema Mucungui and Germany’s Theresa Stoll in the women’s 57 kilogramme judo matches at Nippon Budokan stadium, but she had to bow out in the quarterfinals to France’s Sarah Leonie Cysique.

After losing to Tsukasa Yoshida of Japan in the bronze medal match, Liparteliani won her repechage match against Julia Kowalczyk of Poland in Session 6 of the day.
