Early Life

In Brooklyn, New York, Kimmel was born to Joan Iacono and James John Kimmel, an American Express worker and an IBN executive. He’s the eldest one among his all three siblings.

Emerging from a catholic background, he served at the altar. Kimmel mother’s family belonged to Italian ancestry and migrated to the United States after the earthquake in 1883 from Ischia, Naples.

Basically “Kummel” was his family’s surname as they root as German immigrants. When he was just nine years old his family shifted to Las Vegan, Nevada.

He completed his graduation from Ed W. Clark High School, for a year he attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and later shifted to Arizona State University. Later in 2013, he pursued an honorary degree from UNLV.

Few of his family members kept on making an appearance on Kimmel’s shows. Kimmel’s brother is the director of his show Jimmy Kimmel Live! And her sister, Jill, is a comedian.

Career

Kimmel started his career by working in radio during his high school, inspired by David Letterman.

He hosted a few radio shows at college UNLV and even at Arizona State University. Later he got his first paid job as co-host of The Me and Him Show at KZOK-FM in Seattle, Washington in 1989.

He began writing for Fox and appeared at shows like The Man Show, Win Ben Stein’s Money. Later in January 2003, he quit The Man Show for his show, Jimmy Kimmel Live! On ABC. Kimmel kept on appearing on shows like “Jimmy the Fox Guy”, Live with Regis and Kelly, The Howard Stern Show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the Late Show with David Letterman.

Personal Life

Kimmel got married to Gina Maddy in 1988 and parted their way in 2022. They had two children, a daughter named Katherine and son Kevin in 1991 and 1993, respectively. Further, he dated comedian Sarah Silverman and ended in March 2009.

Later Kimmel got into a relationship with the co-writer of his show Jimmy Kimmel Live and got married to her in July 2013.

In July 2014 together they had a daughter named Jane. Two years later they even had a son who was born with rare congenital heart defect, William John on April 21, 2014. His son’s disorder was first reported, after 3 hours of birth when he turned purplish.

This made him go through three days of surgery. Dedicating to this son’s birth, Kimmel after returning to his show, called up cardiac surgeon Mehmet Oz as his first quest.
