The 23-year-old won the final with 56.635 points thanks to a sequence of impressive twists, bounces, and somersaults that she performed.
The amazing routine prevented the tournament favourite, Canadian Rosannagh MacLennan, from winning her third Olympic gold medal in the event. The 32-year-old almost missed the podium, placing fourth with a score of 55.460.
The Canadian gymnast had been in third place and had to wait in agony for the final competitor, X.Y. Zhu, a former Youth Olympic champion, to complete her routine.

On July 30 at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre, her 26-year-old comrade LIU Lingling scored 56.350 and won silver.
