Pippen made to NBA All-Defensive First Team for eight consecutive seasons and to All-NBA First Team thrice. He was an NBA All-Star Game MVP in 1994 and seven-time NBA All-Star.

Early Life

Scottie Pippen was born in Hamburg, Arkansas, in a working-class family to Ethel and Preston Pippen. He is the youngest among 12 siblings. Until a paralytic stroke, which got him on wheelchairs, his father worked in a paper mill. His parents were not able to send their other children to college.

Pipeen went to Hamburg High school, but even after leading his team and taking them into state playoffs, he wasn’t offered any college scholarship.While at the University of Central Arkansas, he played for its team as a walk-on player.

NCAA being more popular tracked the media gaze over NAIA where Central Arkansas played, so initially didn’t receive much media coverage.

Career

In the eyes of NBA scouts, Pippen was drafted in the first round in 1987 by the Seattle SuperSonics. Although interested the Bulls couldn’t get him because of draft pick not being low enough.

So NUlls got into a trade with Seattle. After being benched, Scottie made his debut for the Bulls on Nov’7,1987 in their opener against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Bulls won 104-94, with Pippen finishing with 10 points.

Michael became a mentor figure to Pippen, pushing, motivating him, and playing together to skill up their moves. In the 1988 NBA playoffs, he came out to be one of the best forwards and then career-high statistics of the decade. Earning him his debut NBA all-star selection in 1990.

In the 1990-91 NBA season Pippen alongside Jordan, while improving skills was Bull’s primary defense. Pippen’s season-high with 43 points came in a match against Charlotte Hornets, also he had three triple-doubles in the season.

His performance got him NBA All-Defensive Second Team honors. In the 1991 NBA Finals Bull’s defeated the Los Angeles lakers. He was crucial in Bull’s first three-peat, as they won in 1992 & 1993, as well.

In the 1994 NBA season, came one of the most controversial stances from Pippen, when in the Eastern Conference Semifinal against New York Knicks, he refused to re-enter the game after timeout over the disagreement with Bull’s coach Phil Jackson, attracting media glaze. With controversies in the 5th and 6th games it turned into a vexed season for him.

Rumors of Pippen being traded did the rounds in 1994, however, it was laid to rest with Michael Jordan’s return to Bull’s 1994-95 season.

Perception of being a poor tipper got him the nickname “No Tippin’ Pippen”. Post-retirement several rumors did the rounds over financial hiccups faced by Pippen. But the biggest jolt was the unraveling of $20 million fraud by his financial adviser Robert Lunn.

Who subsequently was sentenced to three years in prison on multiple fraud charges, including on charges of forging Pippen signatures, in March 2016.

I may go so far as saying LeBron James may be the greatest player to ever play the game.” Drawing backlash and criticism from not just Bulls fans, but also from former teammates like Horace Grant.

Camran Shafighi filed a $4 million lawsuit against Pippen in Los Angeles Superior Court on July 11, 2013. Allegedly a physical attack by Pippen in a restaurant over taking a picture with him, though the district attorney’s office on August 27, announced against filing charges.
